According to the latest FBI figures available (2002), Littleton’s overall “crime index” is better than the national average.

The crime index is a measure of the total crimes committed per 100,000 population, consisting of eight categories.

Littleton’s rate of crime was lower than the national average in four of the seven categories: forcible rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, and burglaries. In three categories, Littleton’s crime rate was higher than the national average: murder, larceny/theft, and motor vehicle theft. There were no national figures for arson available to compare Littleton’s rate.

Littleton’s overall crime rates are better when compared to the city’s neighbor to the north, Englewood. Englewood’s overall index was substantially worse than the national average, with figures worse for all categories except two: robberies and aggravated assaults. Englewood’s overall rate of crime was also worse than that of the Denver metro area, which in itself was worse than the national average.
