Rezoning paves the way for Denver Seminary move to Littleton

A 20-acre site south of Hudson Gardens will be the new home of the 55-year-old Denver Seminary. The move of the seminary from south Denver was made possible by the Littleton City Council’s unanimous approval of rezoning the planned site from residential to commercial.

A $26 million unobtrusive campus for theology students, covering 98,000 square feet, will be built to blend in with the South Platte River surroundings. Buildings will be rendered in a Frank Lloyd Wright style, with a minimum number of trees removed and minimal damage to the river ecosystem.

The campus will consist of housing for 900 graduate students, administration buildings, and the fourth-largest theological library in the United States.

The land for the planned campus had been owned since 1947 by Douglas and Mildred Buck. Douglas Buck died in 1995, and a South Suburban Parks and Recreation District recreation center being built in Littleton has been named after Buck.

Groundbreaking will take place in June, with completion of the project expected in August, 2005.
