When you think of national hockey supremacy and championship rings in our state, you think of the Colorado Avalanche and the University of Denver…but also Littleton?

Well, it so happens Littleton is a national hotbed of hockey excellence--that is, when it comes to youth hockey.

The Littleton Hawks have won the USA Hockey PeeWee 12-and-under national crown twice in the last three years. Since 1987, Littleton teams in various age groups have won six national championships and two runner-ups. They are perennially ranked in the top ten nationally.

Graduates of Littleton youth hockey are playing in every level of hockey—prep schools, college, minor leagues, and even the NHL and US National Team.

In 2003 Littleton youth hockey celebrated its 40th anniversary. Hockey in the south suburbs owes its beginnings to an educator born in the eastern plains of Colorado, Glen Stenson, the “father of Littleton hockey,” who purchased a bankrupt ice rink from a Texas oilman in 1962.

As the Littleton Hockey Association website puts it, “Littleton hockey has a remarkably storied and rich hockey tradition. Our history is layered with myths, legends, characters, championships, personalities and NHL Hall of Famers.”
